Avedis (Avo) Meneshian M.D.

Avedis Meneshian is known to everyone simply as Avo, and his colleagues always have two words to describe him -“laid back.” Maybe it’s because Meneshian hails from Southern California, where his Armenian-American family resides. He finished his residency training in general surgery at Johns Hopkins and is now completing a three-year fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. Meneshian, along with fellow residents Brian Bethea and Joe DeSimone, admits a lot of their social life exists within the walls of the hospital, and their shared office in particular -- where in between studying test questions they may also be blasting various iTunes playlists.

Meneshian started his residency thinking he would specialize in pancreatic surgery, but while in training with surgeons such as Steve Yang, John Conte and Ashish Shah, realized he ultimately wants to concentrate in general thoracic, or the chest area of the body. Once he completes his fellowship in Baltimore, he would like to go back to the West Coast, close to his friends and family.
